Position: Vice President – Operations
Department: Operations / Manufacturing
Reporting To: Executive Director
Location: Multiple Manufacturing Plants
Team Size: Approximately 3,000 Employees
Industry: Manufacturing – Nets, Ropes, Cordage and Related Products

1. Role Purpose:

The Vice President – Operations will be responsible for leading and managing operations across multiple manufacturing plants with approximately 3,000 employees.

The role will focus on achieving production, quality, cost, delivery, safety, and productivity targets while ensuring effective coordination between all plants and support functions.

The position will provide strategic and operational leadership to Plant Heads and ensure that the organization achieves sustainable growth and operational excellence.

2. Key Responsibilities:

A. Overall Operations Management:
Lead operations across all manufacturing plants.
Set operational targets and ensure achievement of production, quality, cost, and delivery objectives.
Review plant performance regularly and take corrective action where required.
Standardize processes and operating practices across plants.
Ensure optimum utilization of manpower, machines, materials, and production capacity.
Improve overall productivity and operational efficiency.

B. Production & Capacity Planning:
Ensure production plans are aligned with sales and customer requirements.
Monitor plant capacity, utilization, and production output.
Identify bottlenecks and implement solutions to improve throughput.
Improve machine utilization, manpower productivity, and overall plant efficiency.
Ensure timely execution of production schedules.

C. Cost Control:
Monitor material consumption, wastage, labour costs, energy costs, and other operating expenses.
Identify opportunities for cost savings and productivity improvement.
Establish cost-control measures across all plants.

D. Quality Management:
Ensure consistent product quality across all manufacturing locations.
Work closely with Quality and R&D teams to reduce rejection, rework, and customer complaints.
Establish strong quality-control systems and accountability at the plant level.
Drive root-cause analysis and corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for quality issues.

E. Maintenance & Engineering:
Ensure effective preventive and breakdown maintenance systems.
Improve machine availability and reduce downtime.
Review major equipment requirements, modifications, and capital expenditure.
Support the implementation of new technology and automation to improve productivity.

F. People & Leadership:
Lead and develop Plant Heads, HODs, and senior operations teams.
Manage a workforce of approximately 3,000 employees through an effective organizational structure.
Establish clear KPIs and accountability at all levels.
Develop leadership talent and succession plans for key positions.
Promote discipline, teamwork, and a performance-oriented culture.
Ensure effective manpower planning and deployment across plants.

G. Safety & Compliance:
Ensure compliance with all applicable statutory, labour, safety, and environmental requirements.
Establish a strong safety culture across all manufacturing locations.
Monitor workplace safety performance and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
Ensure proper implementation of company policies and procedures.

H. Continuous Improvement:
Lead continuous improvement initiatives across all plants.
Promote Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, Six Sigma, or other appropriate improvement methodologies.
Establish productivity improvement projects with measurable financial benefits.

3. Authority & Decision-Making

The position will have appropriate authority to:

Set and monitor operational targets for plants.
Allocate manpower and operational resources across plants.
Recommend and implement productivity and cost-improvement initiatives.
Approve operational changes within delegated authority.
Recommend capital expenditure and major equipment requirements.
Take corrective action for operational performance issues.
Recommend changes to organizational structure and manpower requirements.

4. Qualification & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Operations, Manufacturing, or a related field.
MBA / PGDM in Operations or Management will be an advantage.
Typically, 22–25+ years of relevant manufacturing experience, with significant experience in senior operations leadership.
