Job Description

Designation: Plant Head (Factory Head)
Location: Narhe, Pune (Candidate should be ready to relocate to Shirwal.)
Educational Qualification Degree / B.Tech in Food Technology or related discipline
Experience Minimum 15+ years of experience in food manufacturing operations

Job Summary:
The Plant Head is responsible for end-to-end manufacturing operations, ensuring production efficiency, cost optimisation, quality, food safety, statutory compliance, and people management, in alignment with Bakelite’s strategic business objectives. The role plays a critical leadership position in achieving turnover targets, profitability goals, operational excellence, new factory setup, and continuous improvement initiatives, while maintaining high standards of hygiene, safety, and employee engagement.

Key Skills:

1. STRATEGIC ALIGNMENT:
The Plant Head shall directly contribute to the following organisational goals:
Achieving targeted turnover and profitability for Bakelite and Delite
Cost optimisation with focus on 15% profitability
Process & systems implementation across manufacturing
Successful execution of New Factory Setup & Live Bakery Project
Customer, channel partner, and employee satisfaction
Development of innovative and market-relevant products
Biscuits Project to achieve turnover of ₹5 Cr
Strengthening food safety, hygiene, and quality standards
Supporting export readiness and social impact initiatives
To achieve goal of zero market complaints

2. KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Production Planning & Capacity Management
Plan and forecast production capacity based on:
Market demand
Existing capacity and utilisation
Sales forecasts and expansion plans
Ensure optimal utilisation of plant resources to meet production targets.
Monitor daily production to ensure output, quality, and on-time delivery.

B. Operations & Cost Control
Plan daily production schedules, maintenance activities, and utilisation of spares.
Control factory operating costs with a focus on:
Labour productivity
Maintenance cost
Material cost optimisation
Drive continuous improvement to reduce wastage and rework.
Ensure factory cost-to-sales targets are met.

C. Quality, Food Safety & Compliance
Ensure strict adherence to:
Food safety standards
Quality systems
Hygiene and sanitation protocols
Lead implementation and sustenance of:
HACCP certification
BRC
Export-related certifications (Gulf & Asian markets)
Ensure statutory compliance related to factories, labour, safety, and environment.

D. Inventory, Supply Chain & Logistics:
Oversee inventory planning and management to ensure:
Optimal stock levels
Minimal wastage and obsolescence
Timely availability of finished goods for customers
Coordinate with supply chain and logistics teams for smooth dispatches.

E. People Management & Industrial Relations:
Build a congenial and disciplined work environment.
Recruit, manage, and develop plant manpower.
Ensure manpower planning aligns with production needs.
Address employee grievances in a fair and timely manner.
Drive employee engagement, productivity, and retention.

F. Data, MIS & Performance Monitoring:
Ensure accurate and timely collection of plant data related to:
Production
Wastage
Inventory
Capacity utilisation
Labour productivity
Employee metrics
Analyse data to identify improvement opportunities and corrective actions.
Present structured MIS and performance updates to Management.

G. Continuous Improvement & Best Practices:
Stay updated with latest production management practices in the food industry.
Implement Lean Manufacturing practices to improve labour productivity.
Drive technology adoption for operational efficiency.
Promote a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

H. Projects & New Initiatives:
Lead planning and execution of:
New Factory Setup
Live Bakery Project
New Product Development (Cookies, Bread, Delite range)
Ensure project execution as per 90-day review format with MD.
Support development of product capability to achieve:
₹4 Cr Delite sales
Export-ready product portfolio

3. KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs):
Bakelite & Delite Sales achievement
Labour productivity (Lean Management – kg/man-day)
Factory cost to sales
Material cost to sales (excluding LPG)
Maintenance cost to sales
Statutory compliance score
First Pass Yield (FPY) – Delite
Customer complaints reduction
On-time execution of NPD projects
Hygiene, safety, and audit scores
